Welcome to Relationships Education at Green Lane

The Department for Education has updated its statutory guidance for Relationships Education, Relationships and Sex Education and Health Education. The revised guidance came into effect from 1 September 2026 and sets out the knowledge and understanding that pupils should develop during their time at primary school

We acknowledge that parents and carers are the prime educators for many children in these areas and therefore the role of school is to reinforce and enhance this learning. Our aim is to provide all our children with the building blocks to live happy and healthy lives and be positive members of our society.

At Green Lane, we want to ensure that our pupils receive high-quality, age-appropriate teaching that helps them to understand themselves, develop healthy relationships, stay safe and look after their physical and mental health.

To support us in delivering this curriculum, we have chosen to use the Kapow Primary RSE and PSHE scheme of work. Kapow’s revised programme has been developed to align with the updated statutory guidance and provides a clear progression of learning from Reception through to Year 6.

The learning is carefully sequenced, meaning that key ideas and vocabulary are revisited and developed as children move through the school.

It is important to distinguish between Relationships Education and Health Education, which are statutory in primary schools, and Sex Education, which is not a statutory requirement at primary level.

The statutory requirements for Relationships Education are set out in the latest guidance document from the Department for Education. Click here to view the document.
